MURPHY, COLLINS TO INTRODUCE SUPER POLLUTANTS ACT OF 2014

U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) today announced their plans to introduce legislation aimed at reducing emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs). SLCPs, referred to as “super pollutants,” are non-carbon dioxide greenhouse pollutants that cause 40 percent of global warming. Read more

Alliance Joins A Global Partnership To Increase Safe And Reliable Access to Energy For Crisis-Affected Families Around The World

Today, the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves officially joined the global effort to better protect the health and safety of refugees and other vulnerable people. The global strategy, formulated and led by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), will address the risks associated with the collection, supply and use of biomass fuel, mainly firewood and charcoal, in emergencies. WHO: 7 MILLION DEATHS ANNUALLY LINKED TO AIR POLLUTION

In new estimates released today, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that in 2012 around 7 million people died - one in eight of total global deaths – as a result of air pollution exposure. This finding more than doubles previous estimates and confirms that air pollution is now the world’s largest single environmental health risk. Reducing air pollution could save millions of lives.
